For those that didn't catch my post yesterday, my car got keyed in a grocery store parking lot. I went in, bought some extra candy, and came out to find two large key marks down my passenger side. I was able to buff the front door's scratch pretty good!

But, the back door is still pretty much fucked up. The scratch still shows, and it looks like they got it so good it dented inwards.

Kinja'd!!!

So I called my insurance co to see what my options were. I've got a $500 deductible, so I've got a dilemma. My car is an 08 civic, manual tranny, with 63k miles. Trade in value is probably only $8k if I'm lucky. Personally, I love my car and would love to have it fixed. Mathematically, I'm not sure if makes sense, especially if I only plan on keeping it for another year or two. What do you guys think, should I go through with it?
Money wise, I could do it if I really wanted to. But, we're saving for a garage, I just dropped $200 on furnace repairs, and I started ordering Xmas gifts...

Well, I bought a paint-matched pen that fills those scratches. Worked well enough for me on my car. I'd do that and keep buying presents. You'll know it isn't perfect, but you can always get it fixed later.

You could always try that paint chip stuff.

If not, I'd put some wax over that asap.

If it was me I'd order some DR Colorchip, fill in the scratch, and then use an orbital polisher after its dry to bring it down level with the rest of the paint. If the metal is creased you'll still see it though.

youre right, the mustang i bought had the passenger door edge with a bit of paint came off, i bought the color that matched and my friends never noticed until i told them about the fix, the paint is solid white, so its easier to make the repair than those paints that sparkle, dont know how its called

Yeah... mine is plain white as well. It's been keyed multiple times, either because it's a BMW or because a previous owner parked like a BMW owner...

It has near zero effect on the value of the car.

But who the hell keys a Civic? I thought that was reserved for premium cars?

Wow, that is too much effort for keying. Mine are deep scratches, but only on one side. Clearly made by a taller person, they likely owned a tiny car and were jealous of my legroom.

I parked next to an asshat that was over the line. Apparently I was parked too close to their pos Accord with tint, exhaust, led head lamps, and monster energy drink stickers. I believe that's who did it.

I always make a note of the license plates of asshats that I park next to.

I just assume the worst.

Ugh. Find out who did it and kick them in the nads.

One of my neighbors or their guests just backed into my friend's rental. Sure, it's a rental, but ugh. Sometimes I park my car in the street if I have something else in my carport. Not amused at the thought of mine getting backed into.
